The Davidson Library at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) asked Exaltation of Larks to come in and consult with their web team on Drupal deployment, high performance optimization and development best practices. We continue our relationship with the UCSB Library, who is one of the hosts of the Santa Barbara Drupal user group.

Evox has the largest automotive imagery library in the United States, and Exaltation of Larks built their online ecommerce catalog using Drupal and toolkits including Ubercart and ImageCache. We also built custom tools for Evox for automating the import and management of their extensive image catalog, and trained their in-house staff to use these tools to administer their catalog.

Gofobo needed help migrating their Drupal 5 site to Drupal 6, and Exaltation of Larks consulted with them on content migration, continuous integration, upgrading custom modules and high performance optimization. The bulk of the nearly year-long project, however, was developing a complex Drupal theme to match equally elaborate wireframes and mockups, including carousels and other dynamic JavaScript effects.

Exaltation of Larks pioneered the use of Drupal as a platform for virtual worlds. We used Drupal, Ubercart and User Points as a basis for a virtual world with an ecommerce store, virtual online goods, an alternative currency system with a behavioral reward-based points system and a fullscreen Flash interface for manipulating virtual items in a 3D playarea environment.

See our Case Studies section for a full case study on Digital Dollhouse.

We worked on Riot Games’ popular League of Legends “Season One Championship” site for DreamHack, the world’s largest LAN party and computer festival. In addition to consulting for them on development best practices, high performance architecture and sustainable theming, we worked on-site and full-time with their team during the development and theming of the championship website.

According to Riot Games, the three-day live coverage of the championship drew a total of 1.69 million unique viewers. The Drupal site alone supported 450,000 simultaneous connections and stayed up and running even though the traffic spike crashed part of Amazon’s CloudFront CDN network.

LegalZoom

LegalZoom is an online legal documentation service and we provide support and ongoing maintenance for the Drupal site used for much of their content. In addition to keeping things running smoothly, our team has developed custom modules, documented for LegalZoom the deployment system designed by their previous service provider, implement fixes and improvements and provided training for their staff.

Exaltation of Larks worked with the local outreach branch of the Jamie Oliver Foundation in Los Angeles in conjunction with the television show, Food Revolution: Los Angeles. We built their multi-lingual online petition system, which was used by thousands of concerned individuals to communicate with board members of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). This project was planned, implemented and deployed in less than 10 days.

Fab Central at MIT Media Lab

Our involvement with MIT’s Media Lab includes our work at the Center for Bits and Atoms with their FabLab program. We built the Media Lab’s first Drupal site, Fab Central, which combined wiki pages, project downloads and online courseware for the worldwide network of fabrication laboratories (FabLabs). Exaltation of Larks later consulted with the Media Lab web team as they developed their strategy for migrating en masse to Drupal.

CruiseSavvy is a destination site for fans of cruising and cruise lines. Mixed with parts TripAdvisor, Flickr and Wikipedia and an added dash of Drupal, visitors to CruiseSavvy are given their own online journals and image galleries to share and save their cruising experiences. We also built the SavvyGuide, an online magazine with articles for new and veteran cruisers; and CruiseSavvy’s news system, which automatically imports news, alerts and press releases from the cruise line industry.

What's What

What’s What is a kids social network for teens and tweens with messaging, groups and image galleries. Exaltation of Larks developed the Drupal theme based on the client’s design and built all the functionality for the site, including a content alert system designed to minimize cyberbullying. We also built a facial recognition login system with an administration dashboard that ensures that only account owners can log into their accounts and that the site stays teens- and tweens-only. No adults allowed!
